Mother's Day with Sugar and Vice

Mother's Day with Sugar and Vice

Mothers Day with Sugar and Vice

It’s that time of the year when we pull out all the stops and celebrate one of the most people in our lives – our mums! Why not show the love by treating Mum to an afternoon tea or high tea, second breakfast or elevenses? Whatever you call it and whatever time you take it, it certainly will do the trick, and the best part is you get to enjoy it too. We’re kind of spoilt for choice in the Mother City so here’s our lowdown.

GO ALL OUT

Afternoon Teas were once only to be found in the drawing rooms of fancy hotels, so if you want to do this properly then head to the likes of The Twelve Apostles and Spa in Camps Bay, The Belmond Mount Nelson in Gardens or The Vineyard Hotel in Claremont. They all have a sumptuous menu with equally stunning scenery and décor to boot, but be sure to book early as the seats get taken quickly.

GO QUIRKY

For something a little different why not try the Kirstenbosch Tea Room in Newlands where you can enjoy a leisurely stroll in the gorgeous gardens before (or after) the special high tea party buffet or look out for Lady Bonin Tea Parlour and her baby-blue caravan with quirky bohemian decorations. The travelling tea-gypsy knows a thing or two about her favourite cuppa and frequents different markets festivals and events. She offers an alternative to the usual coffee takeaways. If dainty tea cups and pretty pots is not your thing, then try the Tibetan Tea House in Sophea Gallery in Simon’s Town where the Tibetan salty butter tea is served in traditional Tibetan wooden teacups, because Tibetan folklore states that ‘drinking tea from a wooden cup makes you handsome, popular and wise!’

 GO SOLO

As with everything, going it solo is sometimes the best option especially if you get to choose the venue (outdoor garden is the best), dictate the menu (plenty of finger licking sandwiches, lots of naughty treats, not to forget the tea off course) and decide who to invite. It also allows you to show off your best high tea worthy cutlery and no one says it needs to match. We had so much fun laying out this stunning table, which has lots of different designs all mixed into one, to create a fantastic arrangement. Shop the high tea look here.
