I absolutely love December! As the song says, it's the most wonderful time of the year and for me, it is by far my most favourite month, as it means one thing and one thing only - the countdown to Christmas has officially begun!
I adore the festive atmosphere – from the lights and Christmas trees that go up across the country, to cooking up a festive storm for friends and family that I haven’t seen as much as I would have liked to during the year! Shopping for gifts, food, and more gifts and decorating the house with all things Christmas –it simply is a magical few weeks that I always wish could last forever.
Yet, the one thing that always floors me every December, is home decor. Surprising as it may sound, I find, that decorating my home for the holidays is sometimes the most difficult task to accomplish. There are two reasons for this: the first is that I am always after something original and quirky that I know no one else will have. The second is money. With all the gifts and food shopping, budgeting for seasonal decor can be tough on the wallet and the last thing I want to do is to buy beautiful festive decor, only to have to bundle it all in a box and store it away for another twelve months until next December.
This is why I created the Dear Deer collection. If you are anything like me, your Christmas is simply not complete without a Reindeer or two. My Dear Deer Collection allows you to inject some unique Christmas cheer into your home which will still be appropriate well after the Christmas tree and tinsel has come down. The range embodies the three F's – Funky, Festive and Functional and the on trend and on budget Ashtrays and Mugs make for perfect Secret Santa presents.
When decorating, people often limit their festive decor to the living room, windows and entryway. I always like to bring the spirit of the festive season into every room of the house, including the kitchen, which let’s face it, is where all the best things happen. Decorating windowsills, doors and table with Dear Deer napkins, tea towels and coasters will really offset a Christmas ambiance, while the platter and salad dishes can be used to serve yummy mince pies, delicious pastries or crisp fresh salads. And because the collection doesn't have all the bells and whistles of your typical Christmas ornaments, you get more versatility and value for your Rand. The table linen for example can be used all year round and the crockery makes for great wall pieces or tea lights holders in the garden.
