I have just made out my Christmas gift list. As always, the list seems to steadily increase - siblings, cousins and friends having got married or had children in the last 12 months. The new additions are all well and good until I look at the gift list budget, and that unfortunately doesn’t seem to be enjoying such a steady increase, if any at all.
December is a potentially dangerous month of the year – dangerous on the wallet that is. From tasty chocolates to designer perfumes, sumptuous smellies to the latest gadgets and gizmos, shopping malls are overflowing with a breath-taking array of festive goodies and treats at this time of the year.
It is easy to get caught up in the spending hype during the holidays. But in all honesty, there really are only a few people you really want to spoil. And for the rest, well that’s why we have Secret Santa right?
In my opinion the person who came up with the initial idea of Secret Santa deserves a medal. Whether between friends, family or colleagues, the concept remains the same: every member of the group has their name thrown into a hat and each person draws out a name and buys one present for that person. An affordable and sensible limit is set for the cost per present, such as under a R200 per gift which is just awesome. People sometimes mix it up by adding a theme too – I once was part of a Secret Santa group where we had to only buy gifts that could be used in the office. However you go about it, the concept is simply genius!
To help you stay on budget, I have put together a small selection of S&V Secret Santa gift ideas that will suit each and every type of name you could possibly draw from the hat. All gifts are well under R200 leaving you a little bit extra to spend on that someone special – YOU!
