On a daily basis I am inspired by the mass of creative talent we have in South Africa. There’s a community of makers that produce the most gorgeous things.
As you may know, at Sugar & Vice we’re very passionate about collaboration. We believe that two is better than one, and there’s magic to be made when we match up! That’s why we came up with the idea to offer you gift solutions by pairing some of our goodies with those of local designers we love.
The items we’ve curated all suit our brand beautifully. Here’s what we’ve got so far but do keep your eyes peeled for more exciting releases in the coming weeks.
In case you missed it… we’re crazy about cacti, as seen in our cacti roundup last week. Last year’s cat mug + sock combo was a hit so we’ve brought it back again. Our friends at Feat Socks Co. created this funky pair, and you can select any of the mugs to have with the socks in this combo deal.
The simplicity of this sterling silver necklace is what caught my attention a while ago. In fact, I love it so much that I even gifted one to each of my bridesmaids last year. It’s the ideal everyday accessory and I always get compliments about it when wearing my necklace. And because we’re all about sharing the joy here at Sugar & Vice we thought to add it to our curated selection of bespoke accessories. But wait, there’s more… Jewellery also needs a jewellery plate to live on, and what better match for the Table Mountain necklace than the Royal Kaap jewellery plate that depicts this magical mountain!
We can't get enough of Lulu & Marula's natural skinfood – it's the ultimate spoil. The Sugar & Vice X Lulu & Marula gift set contains a lovely balancing cleansing bar and one of our soap dishes.
There’s coffee, and then there’s the hand-roasted artisan coffee locally made by Moka. This is how you add magic to the morning – enjoy it in a beautiful mug and you’re really winning! Buy any one of our coffee mugs and pair it with one of Moka’s bestselling blends – Uganda Bungisu or El Salvador. Moka is available in moka, espresso, ground or in bean form if you want to do your own grinding. At the studio our favourite is the hand-roasted artisan chocolate and Amarula-coated moka coffee beans, which should come with warming label that it is totally addictive!
Journaling is one of the most effective ways to practice mindfulness. As a busy creative and entrepreneur, journaling is an essential part of my week, and something that helps me focus and reflect.
And doing this in a beautiful book really adds to the pleasure of the experience. Right now I am using one of these magnificent handmade leather journal from Stockton Goods. There is something about the honesty and authenticity of leather that really adds to the value of journaling.
Is it a birdcage, or the edgiest accessory every?! I love the simplicity of this Black Conservatory House from Elsje Designs. It’s perfectly understated, but paired with a plant, the ideal way to make a dull corner in the home pop!
Geometric shapes and forms are still all the rage, and we can’t get enough of these Himmeli Hanging Sculptures by Elsje Designs. Hang it against the wall, suspend it from the ceiling or place it on the table with some greenery flowing out of it. Simply stunning!
Let’s just draw a line right there, city slickers! It’s wonderful to see how something as utilitarian as a ruler can be turned into a design object. With silhouettes of Cape Town, Durban and Joburg, these funky rulers are more than just an item of stationery – it’s a must-have desk accessory.
