Everybody loves a good secret, right? But we love it even more if that secret comes wrapped as a Christmas gift! Which is why we’re crazy about the concept of Secret Santa.
Just a bit of background, Secret Santa is a Western Christmas tradition in which members of a group or community are randomly assigned a person to whom they give a gift, Wikipedia tells us.
It is an especially fun thing to do among friends, social clubs and colleagues. In fact, one of the things I miss about working in an office with a bunch of people is the exchanging of Secret Santa gifts.
How it typically works is that the group decides on an amount of money each should spend on the gift. Part of the fun is to keep the amount quite low (say R100 or R200) so that the challenge is to be imaginative on a budget… Then everybody’s name goes into a Santa hat (what other hat?!) and each member of the group draws a name and that’s then the person whose Secret Santa you are.
Eek, so what to buy for Serious Susan in sales or Frivolous Fran in finance? Stress and fear not for Sugar & Vice have been awesome ideas! We shared our Secret Santa gift ideas with you in 2014 and thought it would be a great to give you some fresh ideas of gifts under R200 again this year.
And let’s face it, nobody likes ending up with unwanted gifts. As an aspiring minimalist I believe that one should only be surrounded by things that spark joy… and because we want this for others too we’ve created a Secret Santa wish list printable which you can download for free.
Simply print these and hand out to fellow Secret Santas and use them to write down what you really want or need. Simple! Download here.
