We’re in the heart of winter, which is a great time to indulge – in delicious treats, but also in the joy of making them.
Here at Sugar & Vice we reckon we’ve got up with the ingredients for the ultimate winter weekend morning:

Ok, so one of favourite winter activities is baking. The colder it is outside the more I like to hot things up in the kitchen! My ideal Saturday morning looks a lot like the “recipe” above.
It gets better because talented food and lifestyle photographer Michelle Parkin has very generously shared the most amazing recipe for Vegan Dark Chocolate Chip cookies. They’re super yummy (and contains some healthy ingredients - bananas, nuts, dark chocolate and cinnamon – which we know is good for us!) and really easy to make.
1 cup vegan butter
1/3 cup mashed ripe banana
3/4 cup sugar
3 cups all purpose flour
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 cup nuts, finely chopped
1/4 cup chopped dark chocolate (vegan :)
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
- Cream butter & sugar and then add banana.
- Add the vanilla & salt and blend till combined before adding the flour, pecans, chocolate and cinnamon.
- Transfer to a large piece of cling wrap and roll into a tight log, Freeze for 15 minutes to harden.
- Preheat oven to 180 C.
- Unroll the cookie dough and slice cookies into ± 1 cm discs with a sharp knife. If the dough has become too hard, let it rest for a few minutes at room temp to soften. If it’s too soft, freeze longer.
- Line a baking tray with baking paper and place discs onto tray.
- Bake for 18-22 minutes or until light golden brown.

We recommend making a morning of the baking. I like to do this by choosing a great podcast (I’m currently loving the Girlboss Radio series) to enjoy as I bake. It’s also important to look the part when you’re getting your #DomesticGoddess on, which is why I love these aprons by Zana!
